Grand Batimatech unveils ambitious program and finalists for its PitchTech Innovation Construction competition

Under this year’s theme: The new normal – artificial intelligence in construction and real estate

MONTRÉAL, SEPTEMBER 16, 2024 – The Grand Batimatech returns for its 9th edition, a major event that will bring together nearly 1,000 professionals and managers from construction companies at the Palais des congrès de Montréal on September 24 and 25. This year’s event aims to position the construction and real estate sector on the same technology starting line as other industries, highlighting the crucial importance of artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative technologies in this
transformation. This project is made possible thanks to the financial participation of the Québec government.

The event of the year for the construction and real estate sector

With “The New Normal” as its theme, Le Grand Batimatech 2024 focuses on an inescapable reality: the construction and real estate sector no longer has to ask whether it should adopt technologies, but rather which ones to choose to meet its specific needs. Artificial intelligence, as a key enabler, takes center stage in this edition, offering participants unique perspectives on its strategic integration.

The event program includes a talk by Mr. Yusuke Tanabe, Director of TAk-GRIT, INC, a Silicon Valley-based recruitment subsidiary of Takenaka Corporation, one of Japan’s leading construction companies, a presentation by Google on generative artificial intelligence, and panels organized by Groupe Chevalier Séguin, Pomerleau and Decasult, among others. What’s more, this event is financially supported by Services Québec, and is a recognized training course for people managing a construction company. These managers must also manage the organizational changes arising from adaptation to new technologies, ensuring that employees are trained and supported to maximize their productivity and commitment.

“I am delighted to support this unique event, which highlights the ambition and thirst for learning of Québec companies in the construction and real estate sector. Discussions and training sessions during this event will address a number of key themes, such as innovation, technology and workforce succession. I am confident that all participants will come away inspired and better equipped to adapt to the realities of the labour market,” says Kateri Champagne Jourdain, Minister of Employment and Minister responsible for the Côte-Nord region.

Fourteen start-ups compete for major investment

The highlight of this year’s event will be the 8th PitchTech Innovation Construction competition, featuring 14 companies offering cutting-edge technological solutions. Since its inception, the competition has welcomed 143 technology companies from around the world, providing an unprecedented showcase for innovation in the sector.

This year, GroundBreak Ventures, a Canadian venture capital fund, will award the winning company an investment of $50,000 through an uncapped Y Combinator MFN SAFE Note. The prize also includes mentoring, underlining the commitment to support emerging technologies and to Quebec’s burgeoning ecosystem of construction technology and residential innovation.

“The PitchTech Innovation Construction Batimatech competition is back for its ninth edition, promising even greater results than in previous years! Following their participation, several finalists from recent years have experienced impressive growth, secured venture capital funding such as Mechasys and SmartD Technologies, even been acquired such as K-Ops, Maestro Technologies inc. and Mobile-Punch, and finally, BioAlert Solutions winning a Mipim Proptech New York award. This clearly demonstrates that taking part in the PitchTech Innovation Construction competition can be a transformative opportunity for companies and startups offering innovative technological solutions in the building sector”, says Francis Bissonnette, President and Founder of Batimatech.

Savvy consumers of innovative technologies

The Grand Batimatech 2024 also highlights the growing importance of technology consumers within the industry. The event has been designed to demonstrate that construction and real estate professionals are now sophisticated users of technological solutions and innovative equipment. This is a new normal, where the selection of technological tools is as crucial as their adoption. It is more than just an event; it’s an opportunity to position the construction and real estate sector at the forefront of technological advances. By bringing together experts, innovators and opinion leaders, this 9th edition promises to redefine industry standards and pave the way for the future.
